Wedgetail Engineering Design and Study
Sedgman Onyx was commissioned by Nickel West to undertake design works for the water infrastructure and the non-process infrastructure (NPI) for the Wedgetail Engineering Design and Study.
The project aimed to maintain feed to the Leinster Concentrator through development of a new mining site.

Scope
Sedgman Onyx’s scope included a definition phase study (DPS) for the water infrastructure and a selection phase study (SPS) for the permanent surface infrastructure.
The water infrastructure scope included:
- Bore pumps, headworks and pipelines
- Collection ponds and transfer pumps
- Long-distance overland hypersaline water pipeline
- Earthworks and road upgrades.
The permanent surface infrastructure scope included:
- High voltage/low voltage infrastructure
- Heavy and light vehicle wash and fuel facilities
- Workshop, warehouse and laydown areas
- Magazine and ammonium nitrate emulsion facilities
- Offices, ablutions, crib and bathhouse
- Power, water, communications and wastewater systems.
Outcome
Extensive value optimisation was completed in a collaborative approach with the client to deliver significant capital cost savings whilst still achieving a fit for purpose design.
