BioIron™ Research and Development Facility
Sedgman Onyx was engaged by Rio Tinto in 2021 to support all stages of the BioIron™ Research and Development Facility development including studies, engineering, planning and project management.
Following successful trials of the innovative BioIron™ ironmaking process, Rio Tinto are developing a research and development facility which will be built in the Rockingham strategic industrial area in Western Australia. This will further assess the effectiveness of its low-carbon ironmaking process to support decarbonising the global steel value chain.
The plant has been designed in collaboration with the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom, Metso Corporation and Sedgman Onyx.
